Wise policies
stand Oman in good stead: Kuwaiti writer
KUWAIT — Writer Saad bin
Tafla has welcomed His Majesty the Sultan’s current two –day visit to Kuwait
and his meeting with Shaikh Sabah al Ahmed al Jaber al Sabah, Emir of
Kuwait. In an article published in ALAAN online newspaper on Sunday, Tafla
said Kuwaitis would never forget the typically- Omani and uncompromising
stance by His Majesty and his people in support of their country during the
then Iraqi regime’s aggression in 1990.” Oman had really been a safe haven
on those black days for Kuwaitis and was a staunch supporter of what was
right and just, he said.
Tafla said visitors to “the beloved Oman admire the huge transformation that
took place during his majesty’s reign ‘. Those changes helped remove the
Sultanate from the list of backward countries and catapulted the country to
the forefront of more developed states. He said those achievements have been
acknowledged by international organisations which accorded Oman the status
of the cleanest , most stable and peaceful countries. “This has reflected
positively on the Sultanate’s economy which saw huge foreign capital
influx,” Tafla said . He also noted that Oman has avoided disturbances,
entrenched itself against terrorism and overcome naturalcatastrophes.”
Oman had surprised the world when it managed single- handedly the
consequences of the adverse weather conditions in 2007 and was totally
relying on its own resources, refusing to ask for outside help,” he
remarked. “His Majesty’s visit to Kuwait comes at a time when the region is
in dire need of Omani wisdom and the long experience of His Mjesty to help
bring about stability and avoid more wars and confrontations.”, he wrote.
“The region needs the Sultanate’s balanced policy , calm diplomacy and
farsighted vision, “he affirmed. “The region is the scene of conflagrations
and crises loom high in the horizons.
The battlegrounds of the Yemeni war, the Yemeni- Hauthi war and the Hauthi-
Saudi war are not far from the Sultanate’s borders.” He also cited the
Somali piracy and the waves of African immigrants arriving at the coastal
areas of Arabian Sea and close to Oman as among other things troubling the
region. “Oman has managed to avoid troubles and wars and stand at an equal
distance from parties of conflict. It is a unique policy to be observed in
the region. It is no exaggeration to even say that such a policy is a rarity
in the world politics.
“ Tafla said the region misses much this special Omani policy which “may
save it from a potential international confrontation with Iran or a painful
embargo or something even worse than that. “ He said HM’s visit carries a
special importance and HM’s experience and wisdom will prove very much
helpful and constructive as the two leaders can co-ordinate stance and unify
ranks to ensure peaceful co-existence of the peoples in the region.” |
