Prize distribution ceremony held

MUSCAT — The Haffa House in Ruwi witnessed the annual gala of the Oman Automobile Association on Monday. The gala evening was presided over by Rashad bin Ahmed al Hinai, the Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Sports Affairs. It saw the achievers of the year and the supporters being honoured.

The event showcased the activities of the last season and in the end a new logo for the Oman Rally Championship 2010, which will be flagged off on Friday. Shields were presented by the chief guest to the Royal Oman Police, Civil Defence, Royal Oman Hospital, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Sport Affairs, Ministry of Tourism and The Royal Omani Amateur Radio Society for their invaluable support and service rendered for the championship that made the year a grand success.

Joining the presentation ceremony was Brigadier Salim Ali Khalifa al Maskiry, Chairman of Oman Rally Championship 2009 and Director of Oman Automobile Association. An OAA official also revealed that the new Go-Kart track will be officially opened in March 2010, which means the go-karts will be back in action this season after a long lay-off.

The first round of the Rally Oman 2010 will be held on Friday, which will start from Oman Automobile Association at 9am and finish at 5.30pm. The rally stages will be at Al Mawaleh (9.10km), SQU (6.20km) and Rusayl (7.10km) — all these three stages will be run thrice. Total distance of the rally will be 162.20km, out of this the special stages will be 67.20km and road section will be 95km.

 The service area of the rally will be situated near Al Mawaleh rally stage. The scrutineering of the rally vehicles will be held at the Oman Automobile Association from 10am to 5pm. The first three positions of the drivers last season are as follows: 1. Khalil Abdullah Soomar al Zadjali; 2. Ibrahim Salim Mohammed al Abri; 3. Khalid Soomar al Zadjali. The first three positions of the co-drivers are as follows: 1. Taha Said Shaban al Zadjali; 2. Salim Shaikhan Zaher al Abri; 3. Naif Khalfan Mohammed al Obaidani
