Trade union institutional
conference opens today
MUSCAT — Maqbool bin Ali
Sultan, Commerce and Industry Minister, will preside over the opening
ceremony of the Sultanate's General Trade Union's Institutional Conference
today which will elect members of the union's administrative staff and
members of the auditing committee under the supervision of international and
local observers. The union seeks to look after and defend labour legal
rights, represent them before official authorities, councils and committees
concerned with labour affairs and at local, regional and international
meetings and conferences.
It is worth noting that the union comprises the private sector
establishments' trade unions whose establishments agree with the
international labour standards. The labour trade union, having completed all
formation and registration procedures, looks after labour interest within
the organisation in line with the laws and regulations in the Sultanate. It
also seeks to improve employees' economic, social and cultural conditions in
the establishment. A number of international, Arab and regional
organizations and trade unions are taking part in the conference. — ONA |
