Oman-Sweden talks focus on
economic ties
MUSCAT — An official
session of talks between the Sultanate and Sweden was held at the Commerce
and Industry Ministry yesterday. The session covered enhancing co-operation
between the two countries in various economic and service fields. The Omani
side to the session was led by Maqbool bin Ali Sultan, Commerce and Industry
Minister, while the Swedish side was led by Dr Ewa Bjorling, Trade Minister
in Sweden. Maqbool said that the session discussed enhancing the economic
co-operation between the Sultanate and Sweden in fields of tourism,
environmental conservation, communications and information technology,
training and education.
In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), Maqbool said that the Swedish side
showed interest to invest in the environment sector in the Sultanate due to
the Sultanate's long experience in this field and availability of Swedish
companies that are interested in environmental studies. He also pointed out
that the session touched on the subject of the inter-trade between the two
countries in terms of increasing exports to the markets of both countries.
He said that the Omani exports to Sweden have increased last year.
The session also touched on encouraging the private sector in the Sultanate
and Sweden by exchanging joint visits and taking part in the activities in
both countries, in addition to, the joint services projects in environmental
and technical fields that are needed by the Port of Sohar. — ONA |
