Education ministry symposium
to focus on specialisations By A Staff Reporter MUSCAT — Dr Abdullah Mohammed al Sarmi, Under-Secretary of Higher Education, has announced the convening of a national symposium entitled, “The Outcome of Specialisations in the Field of Education and Job Opportunities”, which will be held at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel from June 15-16. The event has been organised by the Ministry of Higher Education in close co-ordination with six other government bodies. In a statement, Dr Al Sarmi affirmed that the symposium comes in the context of the ongoing endeavour of the government to map out and implement national strategic awareness in certain arenas aimed at expanding the educational horizons of students by guiding them towards a wider range of academic specialisations and thereby broadening their employment prospects. The symposium, he said, will ultimately contribute to national development by creating a vibrant job market in Oman with young qualified citizens in various fields of employment. He added that inspiration for the symposium came from His Majesty the Sultan’s continued emphasis on human resources development. In his statement, Dr Al Sarmi referred to the disproportionate number of graduates in certain disciplines as opposed to a severe dearth of qualified Omanis in other areas of specialisation. The symposium will aim to address this imbalance by offering imaginative solutions and mechanisms to deal with this situation. Besides the Ministry of Higher Education, there will also be representatives from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Civil Service, Ministry of Manpower, Majlis Addawla, Majlis Ash’shura and Sultan Qaboos University. |
