Smugglers of firecrackers held
The Directorate-General of Customs, Royal Oman Police, recently arrested smugglers who entered the Sultanate via border checkpoints with large numbers of firecrackers, Al Fattak, in their possession. The suspects confessed to the violation of the law and they were transferred to the designated court which ordered them jailed and fined. The court also ordered the confiscation of the smuggled items. According to the law, people convicted of such crimes are awarded a maximum imprisonment of three years and fined a maximum sum of RO 3,000, but on repetition of crime the penalties will be doubled as per Articles 145/4 and 142 of the GCC Unified Customs Law.

Police arrest 2 in Mumbai attacks probe

Indian police said yesterday they had arrested two men who helped the Mumbai attackers get mobile phone cards which they used for communications during their three-day rampage. Police in the eastern city of Kolkata identified the men as Tausif Rehman and Mukhtar Ahmed and said they were picked up on Friday after investigators traced some of the Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards recovered from the gunmen. Lebanese farmer grows super spud
