Our Staff Reporter adds: Turkey’s Ambassador to the Sultanate, Engin Türker, pledged his country’s unreserved support for efforts to bring about an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Speaking to reporters soon after the joint meeting with Yusuf bin Alawi, Türker said: “As a member of the UN Security Council, Turkey has already called for a ceasefire and will continue all efforts to bring about a ceasefire and end the sufferings of the Palestinian people. What is happening in Palestine is a real human tragedy, which is beyond anything acceptable.

The entire international community is against what is happening in Gaza, and despite these sentiments for the cessation of the sufferings of Palestine, still there is no ceasefire.” According to Türker, Oman’s Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs had requested the meeting with ambassadors of countries represented on the Security Council, to seek their urgent support for efforts to bring about an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza. “I believe, as a peace-loving country, Oman is doing its best (towards this goal).

The reason why we have been invited, as members of the Security Council, is just to let us know the expectations of Oman from the Security Council members. That expectation is primarily for us to do our best in getting a ceasefire adopted by the Security Council… because, as long as a ceasefire decision is not adopted in the Council, the bloodshed will continue in Palestine. Only with a ceasefire can something be done for the sufferings of the people, who have been deprived basics like medicine, food, fuel and also their human rights,” Türker lamented.
